Chief Moomen brings the ‘Mansa Musa’ theatre production to the stage on January 24

One of the most vibrant and captivating periods in ancient West African history will come to life in an epic musical theatre production titled Mansa Musa and the Trail of Lost Gold: The Prelude.

This grand African production, featuring a cast and crew of 150, is the brainchild of Ghanaian theatre maestro Chief Moomen and promises to elevate play and tourism to new heights.

The production will premiere at the National Theatre of Ghana on January 24, 2025, marking the first in a series of world premieres across Africa, Europe, America, the Middle East, and Asia.

Mansa Musa and the Trail of Lost Gold: The Prelude is a one-of-a-kind African musical theatre experience. It tells the story of a group of young heroes and heroines who embark on a thrilling journey back in time to uncover the lost gold of Mansa Musa, the legendary ruler of the Mali Empire, often regarded as the richest man in history.

This production is the first installment of a larger series, which will offer audiences an immersive exploration of the ancient empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai.

The initiative, dubbed The Mansa World, is dedicated to curating African history and heritage on an unprecedented scale, presenting captivating content that connects global audiences to Africa’s rich cultural legacy.
