BSIFF marks its 10th anniversary and invites filmmakers to submit entries

The prestigious Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) is celebrating a significant milestone—its 10th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, the festival is inviting filmmakers from Ghana, Africa, and beyond to submit their entries for the upcoming edition. Submissions can be made via the festival’s official website or FilmFreeway, a global platform that streamlines the film submission process for festivals worldwide.

Over the years, BSIFF has played a key role in shaping Ghana’s film industry, inspiring the creation of other festivals and providing a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work, reach broader audiences, and secure distribution opportunities.

Beyond screenings, the festival offers a valuable space for networking, industry collaboration, and professional development. It also provides Ghanaian audiences and attendees with access to films that may not typically be shown in cinemas.

Globally, film festivals are crucial to the growth of any film industry, and the continued success of festivals in Ghana signals a promising resurgence of the country’s film sector.

As a globally recognized event, BSIFF annually brings together filmmakers from over 40 countries, with the festival traditionally taking place in September.

Notable films featured at past editions include Yardie by Idris Elba, the Academy Award-winning Moonlight, and BlacKkKlansman. African films have also found a home at BSIFF, which is dedicated to promoting and elevating African filmmakers. Last year, the acclaimed Ghanaian film Pawn, produced by Lynx Entertainment and directed by Pascal Aka, had its world premiere at the festival.

With the 10th edition approaching, organizers are eager to see the new films that will be showcased.

Announcing the call for submissions on their official website and social media platforms, the organizers wrote:
