BSIFF Unveils Official Film Selections for 2025 Festival

The Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) has officially unveiled its lineup of films for this year’s 10th anniversary edition.

The festival board received submissions from over 120 countries, including Afghanistan, China, Cambodia, Macao, Venezuela, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, among many others. Films selected for screening, however, came from nations such as Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Jamaica, the U.K., Bangladesh, Romania, Albania, Italy, France, Brazil, and Uzbekistan.

In the Feature/Fiction category, Ghanaian directors Michael Sefa, Onasis Gaisie, Zoey Martinson, and Wael H. Hakum had their works selected. The Short-Fiction category features Ghana’s Nana Kofi Asihene with Wrong Way, Ramesh Jai with Love and Jollof, and Eugene Appiah with Kasi. Meanwhile, Ghanaian duo Twindntberg earned recognition in the Music Film category.

Earlier in August, BSIFF announced a partnership with Majestic Cinemas in Ivory Coast, aimed at transforming film distribution across West Africa. The collaboration seeks to break language barriers and encourage cross-cultural exchange.

This 10th anniversary is not only a celebration of the festival but also a milestone for the Ghanaian film industry. Since its inception, BSIFF has given birth to several film festivals in Ghana, while providing countless filmmakers with a platform to showcase their work, access global audiences, and secure distribution opportunities.

Reflecting on the official film selection, Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, Founder of BSIFF, described it as a significant step toward this year’s event.

“Well done to all those who have worked so hard to bring us here. Sometimes you even wonder how the news about your work travels,” she remarked.
