Accra will host the Broadway Theatre Festival 2025 in October. The week-long celebration will highlight dance, drama, and heritage. It aims to showcase Ghana’s cultural vibrancy while uniting artists from Africa and the diaspora.

The festival runs from October 6–12 at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts. Performers and cultural leaders will attend from Malawi, Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Nigeria, Togo, and the United States. Organisers say the event will act as a global platform for African creativity and strengthen Ghana’s image as a cultural hub.
The theme is “Threads of Heritage: Weaving the African Identity.” The Festival Secretariat explained that it reflects the connection between ethnic traditions and modern Ghanaian identity. “Heritage is not just what we inherit; it’s what we live and pass on. This festival is where the past meets the present and where African voices find new strength on the global stage,” they noted.
The programme will feature stage performances, panel discussions, masterclasses, and workshops. Topics include “Music, Movement, and Meaning: What Ghanaian Dance and Drama Teach Us.” A special Heritage Day will also celebrate the communal spirit that unites Africa.
Delegates will arrive in Accra on October 5. They will be welcomed at Kotoka International Airport with traditional Ghanaian drumming. The gesture symbolises unity and cultural pride while underscoring Ghana’s role as a gateway to Africa.
Organisers stress that the festival has grown beyond an artistic showcase. It now serves as a platform for cultural diplomacy, education, and tourism. “This is Africa telling its own story on its own terms, with the world watching,” they said.
Audiences can expect seven days of performances, discussions, and cultural exchanges. The event will end with a finale that organisers describe as both a celebration and a reminder of Ghana’s place as the heartbeat of African heritage.
