Amaarae showcases Ghana on the global stage at Coachella 2025

US-based Ghanaian singer-songwriter Amaarae proudly represented Ghana at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held on April 13 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

As the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo set at the globally renowned festival, Amaarae delivered a high-energy performance that celebrated both her artistry and Ghanaian music. Alongside her hit tracks, she introduced the Coachella audience to songs from Ghanaian artists like Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang, and the Asakaa Boys.

In a heartfelt moment on stage, Amaarae waved the Ghanaian flag and encouraged fans to do the same, proudly declaring:

“A lotta the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana. I love my country so much.”

One of the most memorable highlights was when Amaarae dramatically cut her long hair during her performance—a bold artistic statement that left the crowd in awe. She also announced her upcoming album, Black Star, set for release in summer 2025.

The 2025 Coachella Festival spans two weekends, with the first leg running from April 11–13, and the second scheduled for April 18–20.

Amaarae, born Ama Serwah Genfi, has roots in Ghana, Atlanta, and New Jersey. She first gained recognition in 2017 with her Passionfruit Summers EP. Her subsequent projects, including The Angel You Don’t Know (2020) and Fountain Baby (2023), solidified her place on the global stage. In 2023, she won Record of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards for her breakout track Sad Girls Luv Money, featuring Moliy.

Through her Coachella performance, Amaarae not only made history but also spotlighted the vibrancy of Ghanaian music to a global audience.
