The Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) has successfully concluded the preliminary screening for its inaugural 2025 edition, shortlisting 64 films from 121 submissions received from 21 countries across Africa and beyond.
Organizers have announced that the official list of nominees will be released on November 13, 2025, ahead of the festival and awards ceremony slated for December 10–13, 2025, in Accra, Ghana.

The initial screening, held from October 20 to 28, 2025, evaluated entries across various genres and categories. The Academy of Screeners assessed the films based on originality, storytelling, creativity, technical excellence, and cultural depth. The process was supervised by a diverse panel of film scholars, critics, and professionals from Ghana and other African countries.
Currently, the Regal Film Festival Jury Team is handling the final screening phase, which will determine the nominees in each category.
Executive Director Selassie Ibrahim expressed gratitude to all filmmakers who submitted their works, commending the impressive diversity and quality of the films.
“We are inspired by the creativity and storytelling power emerging from Africa and the Diaspora. The 64 selected films represent some of the most innovative voices shaping the future of African cinema,” said Dr. Jim Awindor, Head of Jury.
Comprising experts in filmmaking, academia, and film criticism, the Academy and Jury reflect the festival’s commitment to authenticity and excellence.
The Regal Film Festival and Awards celebrates creativity and distinction in African filmmaking, serving as a platform for collaboration, cultural exchange, and recognition of outstanding talent. The awards night will take place on December 13, 2025, at the Palms Convention Centre, Accra.
