The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially launched the 2025 edition of “December in GH,” a flagship tourism initiative designed to position Ghana as Africa’s leading holiday destination.

The launch ceremony took place on Monday, October 13, at the Banquet Hall of the Jubilee House in Accra, drawing together key stakeholders from the tourism, creative arts, and hospitality sectors. Among the dignitaries present was Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff at the Office of the President. The event also marked the official opening of Ghana’s festive end-of-year calendar, known for being one of the continent’s most vibrant celebrations of culture, music, and heritage.
In her address, Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, highlighted the growing impact of the December in GH campaign in promoting Ghana as Africa’s preferred destination for festive tourism. She noted that the 2025 edition would build on past successes by strengthening collaboration across the creative, hospitality, and events industries to deliver world-class visitor experiences.
Madam Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the creative economy as a driver of national development, stating:

“December in GH is more than a celebration — it is a reflection of Ghana’s vibrant spirit, culture, and global appeal. It represents our vision of a modern tourism economy built on creativity, inclusivity, and innovation. This year’s edition will project our nation’s unique identity and reinforce Ghana’s status as Africa’s cultural gateway.”
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Julius Debrah commended the Ministry and the GTA for their dedication to advancing tourism as a tool for economic growth, job creation, and cultural exchange. He praised December in GH for its contribution to national branding and its positive ripple effect on small and medium enterprises within the tourism ecosystem.
Mr. Rex Omar, Head of the Black Star Experience Secretariat, emphasized the pivotal role of the creative sector in sustaining Ghana’s tourism growth. He noted that the Black Star Experience has become the heartbeat of December in GH, connecting global audiences with authentic Ghanaian narratives.
“Our goal is to curate experiences that go beyond entertainment — to celebrate identity, creativity, and connection,” Mr. Omar explained. “This year’s calendar reflects the growing strength of our creative sector and its power to drive innovation, partnerships, and tourism-led growth.”
The 2025 edition will feature a diverse lineup of events nationwide, including concerts, cultural festivals, culinary fairs, and diaspora reunions, all under the Black Star Experience platform. During the launch, the official December in GH 2025 Calendar was unveiled, highlighting the approved activities set to take place throughout the festive season.
Since its inception in 2019, December in GH has become a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism strategy, attracting thousands of visitors annually and reinforcing the country’s international image as a destination of warmth, creativity, and unity. Through strong partnerships with event organizers, the diaspora, and local creatives, the GTA continues to champion a vibrant and inclusive tourism agenda that places Ghana at the forefront of Africa’s travel scene.
