The revered monarch, first enstooled as a child at the age of five, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential traditional rulers. His presence at this year’s festival reflects the deepening cultural ties between Ghana and Nigeria and highlights the role of traditional leadership in strengthening continental unity.

Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, described the monarch’s arrival as a moment of great pride. “Thank you for helping the GTA welcome the Olu of Warri Kingdom. This king’s visit to Ghana is a big deal, and it is our duty to make him feel special,” she noted.

The Olu of Warri was invited by Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, to serve as a special guest for the 2026 Fetu Afahye Festival—one of the most iconic celebrations in the Central Region, particularly in Cape Coast.

According to Mrs. Houadjeto, the monarch’s presence emphasizes the importance of cultural exchange. “Tourism treasures traditions, and this visit underscores the value we place on heritage. He is highly revered in the Warri Kingdom, and welcoming him here is truly an honour,” she added.

The king is expected to spend the weekend in Ghana, taking part in key activities lined up for the festival. His visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen pan-African unity through cultural diplomacy.

Beyond the Olu’s participation, the GTA boss revealed that between nine and eleven traditional rulers from across Africa are also expected in Cape Coast. Their presence will transform this year’s celebration into a continental gathering of heritage, culture, and unity.

The 2026 Fetu Afahye Festival continues through the weekend with colourful processions, durbars, live music, and cultural exhibitions showcasing the rich history and identity of the Central Region.
