The Department of Fashion Design and Textiles at Accra Technical University (ATU) has hosted its annual fashion exhibition, celebrating the creativity of its final-year students.

Held under the theme “Promoting African Heritage – Our Pride, Our Fashion,” the event brought together parents, faculty, industry players, and fashion enthusiasts. Students presented striking collections that blended tradition with modernity while projecting African heritage in contemporary styles.

Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts, Professor John Osei Agyei, commended the department for nurturing students to merge innovation with precision. He urged Ghanaians to support locally made garments, stressing that ATU’s competence-based training equips graduates to deliver high-quality, custom-made fashion rooted in Ghanaian identity.

Beyond aesthetics, the showcase carried strong messages. Exhibitor Cecilia Ama Makafui used her collection to highlight the dangers of galamsey, while Peter Kelly Anderson Jnr drew inspiration from the Jamestown Lighthouse and his personal life story, showing how fashion can communicate cultural pride and social issues.
