Ghanaian Filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso Debuts Nollywood Movie Stitches at TIFF 2025

Award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso is set to make her debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025 with her first Nollywood feature, Stitches.

The film, produced by Chris Odeh under BRS Studios, has been officially selected for the prestigious festival.

Sharing her excitement, Frimpong-Manso revealed how deeply the project resonated with her.

“I spent over a month in Lagos working on my first Nollywood film, and the experience was unforgettable. The story gave me refuge on my hardest days—a world of love, loss, family, and judgment that felt both familiar and refreshing,” she said.

The filmmaker also expressed gratitude to BRS Studios for entrusting her with the project, adding that she looks forward to tackling more challenging collaborations on the global stage.

Frimpong-Manso, one of Africa’s most celebrated filmmakers, is the founder of Sparrow Productions and Sparrow Pictures. She has written, directed, and produced several acclaimed works, including Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale, Potato Potahto, Checkmate, and Contract, which won Best Movie at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Known for her strong storytelling, high production quality, and authentic portrayal of contemporary African life, Frimpong-Manso’s selection at TIFF 2025 marks another milestone in her career while spotlighting the rising influence of African cinema on the world stage.
