GTA Boss Urges Creative Storytelling with Launch of New Ghana Gold Pendant

The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has called on creative players to tell Ghana’s story in innovative ways that highlight the nation’s rich culture and attract global attention.

Her call came during the official launch of the Ghana Gold Pendant, a luxury piece pioneered by MentraxOro Jewellery as part of its effort to use art and craft to promote cultural storytelling.

GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto receives the first Ghana Gold Pendant at the official launch event in Accra.

Maame Efua became the first recipient of the pendant, valued at GH¢150,000, at a symbolic presentation held during a special media and sales soiree on Tuesday, August 19. She described the initiative as both “bold and timely.”

“This is a beautiful piece of art and heritage. The Ghana Tourism Authority is proud to be part of this soiree. For many years, we have encouraged Ghanaians to tell our story creatively, and MentraxOro has taken a significant step by doing so through this pendant,” she said.

The event brought together journalists, sales partners, and potential buyers, officially marking the start of public sales following its unveiling in June. Attendees learned about the design, craftsmanship, and cultural symbolism behind the pendant, as well as its role in promoting Ghana’s arts, heritage, and tourism.

Crafted from pure Ghanaian gold, the pendant features the face of President John Mahama on the front and the Independence Arch on the back.

MentraxOro’s Public Relations Officer, Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah, described the accessory as “a generational treasure that captures Ghana’s story in gold.”

Sales Manager, Peridot Walterson, added: “From the threads of Kente to the rhythm of our drums, Ghana’s story is unique. This pendant seeks to capture that identity in gold, giving owners a timeless piece to cherish and pass on for generations.”
