The presentation, held at the NFA Conference Hall, was attended by GAFTA executives, who handed over the cheque to NFA leadership. The funds represent fees from Breakwater Studios (California) for using archival footage of legendary Ghanaian cinematographer Rev. Chris Hesse in a documentary.

GAFTA President, Dr. Fara Awindor, called the donation a new chapter in the NFA’s journey, stressing the need for sustained support from both local and global creative players. He underscored GAFTA’s commitment to preserving and digitising Ghana’s film archives, especially materials stored abroad, which he described as vital to national identity, education, and economic opportunity.

The donation will go into the NFA’s Film Development Fund, aimed at boosting cinema projects and infrastructure.

Mr. Kofi Adinkra, NFA’s Head of Business Development, received the donation with appreciation, noting GAFTA’s foundational role in shaping the Authority. Legal Counsel Jamila Arthur and Accountant Georgina Aziedoime were also present.

GAFTA’s PRO, Mr. George Bosompim, shared that the donation follows earlier discussions between the two institutions. He added that GAFTA also plans to support the restoration of the historic Rex Cinema, Ghana’s first state-acquired cinema under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The GAFTA delegation included veteran filmmakers and industry pioneers, reaffirming their dedication to preserving Ghana’s cinematic legacy while investing in its future.

“This donation is a step towards empowering Ghanaian cinema,” said Dr. Awindor. “Let’s build on our heritage to shape a stronger future.”
