Nana Kwame Dadzie Honoured with TGMA Award

Renowned Ghanaian multi-instrumentalist Nana Kwame Dadzie, founder of the Susuma Pan-African Dance Ensemble, has been awarded Traditional Musician of the Year at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

The internationally respected artist received the honour during the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) celebrations held on Friday, June 6 at the Palm Convention Centre, ahead of the TGMA’s 26th edition grand ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre.

Nana Dadzie, who serves as Domain Leader for Dance at the Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) and is also President of the Ghana Dance Association, is celebrated for his decades-long contribution to Ghanaian traditional music and choreography. A seasoned performer, he is proficient in instruments such as the flute, kalimba (thumb piano), balafon, bullhorns, and various traditional drums.

Expressing his joy, Nana Dadzie stated:

“After more than 30 years in the arts, it’s fulfilling to be recognised by my peers here in Ghana. I deeply appreciate this honour and remain committed to projecting Ghana’s music and dance on the global stage.”

Over the years, he has collaborated with several international acts, including the Ex-Centric Sound System, founded by Yossi Fine. Their collaboration led to the release of the globally acclaimed album, Electric Vodooland.

Currently, Nana Dadzie is also developing an all-female traditional ensemble, alongside ongoing mixed-gender cultural projects, further advancing Ghana’s cultural legacy through music and performance.
