The Black Star International Film Festival Set to Celebrate 10th Anniversary This September

The Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) has unveiled plans to mark its 10th anniversary from September 24 to 28, 2025, under the theme “The Relevance of Film in Society.”

This milestone edition will highlight the vital role film plays in shaping society, offering attendees an inside look at the full value chain of the industry. From directors, producers, and screenwriters to costume designers, cinematographers, lawyers, and makeup artists, the festival will spotlight the many professionals who bring films to life.

Organisers note that BSIFF serves as a powerful launchpad for young people exploring careers in film, showcasing the industry’s broad and diverse opportunities.

UNESCO identifies film as the leading employer in Africa’s creative economy, and BSIFF aims to demonstrate this through curated events that inspire new talent and provide a greater appreciation for behind-the-scenes work.

Festival highlights include exclusive film premieres, interactive sessions with renowned actors, directors, and producers, and hands-on masterclasses led by global industry experts—offering value for both experienced professionals and aspiring creatives.

Earlier this month, BSIFF announced a 19-member international jury chaired by Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, former Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana and President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association. A current member of the Media Commission of Ghana, Mr. Sunkwa-Mills brings extensive expertise to guide the festival’s adjudication process.

With jurors from across Africa, Europe, and North America, this year’s festival reflects BSIFF’s growing international reputation and its ongoing commitment to inclusive and diverse storytelling.
