The newly established Bodomase Palace Museum and Art Gallery has been officially inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in the Sekyere Kumawu District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. The commissioning ceremony was led by Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu, alongside Prof. Yaw Nyarko, Director of New York University’s Africa House and the Center for Technology and Economic Development (CTED).

Hon. Anim expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Nyarko and U.S.-based philanthropists Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Judith Thoyer, whose generous financial support brought the vision to life. He emphasized that the museum stands not only as a tribute to Bodomase’s rich history but as a foundation for community education, cultural pride, and future development.

“This project reflects our shared commitment to celebrating Ghana’s heritage and empowering local communities through cultural investment,” Mr. Anim stated.

In his remarks, Prof. Yaw Nyarko highlighted the vital role of cultural institutions in narrating the African story. He praised the local leadership for their dedication to safeguarding traditions, adding:

“This museum symbolizes the vibrant spirit of Ghanaian culture. It shows how tradition and modernity can coexist to tell powerful stories.”

The Bodomase Palace Museum and Art Gallery features a wide collection of artifacts, artworks, and historical documents that capture the legacy of the Kumawu traditional area. It is set to serve as an educational hub for students, researchers, and visitors, while also contributing significantly to Ghana’s cultural tourism drive.

The MP also reaffirmed a promise made during his maiden speech in Parliament to promote tourism in the district, describing the museum’s commissioning as a fulfillment of that vision.

“This is more than a building—it’s a cultural investment that paves the way for Sekyere Kumawu to become a key tourism and heritage destination in Ghana,” he affirmed.

The event brought together traditional leaders, dignitaries, and community members, who hailed the museum as a transformative project with long-term benefits for the region.
