Ghana Tourism Authority Launches Public-Private Partnership Department to Boost Sector Collaboration.

In a strategic move to transform Ghana’s tourism industry, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has inaugurated its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Department. The initiative, anchored in Section 42 of the Tourism Act 2011 (Act 817), aims to enhance collaboration between government and private stakeholders in tourism planning, investment, and implementation.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto described the PPP Department as “a pivotal moment in Ghana’s tourism journey,” underscoring its role in building trust, aligning policy, and promoting sustainable, community-driven tourism. She highlighted the importance of private sector expertise and investment in areas such as accommodation, travel, ecotourism, and digital solutions, and called on public institutions to act as facilitators, not gatekeepers.

Jones Aruna Nelson, the newly appointed Director of the PPP office, pledged to leverage public-private synergies to support national initiatives like the Black Star Experience and the Resetting Agenda. He extended an invitation to both local and international investors to engage in projects that celebrate Ghana’s cultural identity while yielding strong returns.

The event also introduced Bright Asempa Tsadidey as the new Director of Corporate Affairs. He vowed to strengthen Ghana’s global image, promote storytelling through tourism, and deepen media and stakeholder engagement.

President of the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), Charles Adu-Gyamfi, lauded the PPP Department’s launch as long overdue. He affirmed the private sector’s readiness to collaborate, innovate, and help position Ghana as a top-tier global tourism destination.
The new department is set to serve as a catalyst for sustainable development, economic empowerment, and cultural promotion across Ghana’s vibrant tourism landscape.
