In a bold and transformative move, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is set to roll out a new paragliding project in the Volta Region, marking a significant step toward expanding adventure tourism in Ghana.

Ghana Tourism Authority set to introduce paragliding initiative in the Volta Region

The initiative, led by Mr. Ekow Sampson, Deputy CEO of the GTA, aims to establish the Volta Region as a prime destination for paragliding, similar to the popular Kwahu Paragliding Festival. A recent site inspection by a team of experts—featuring a veteran paragliding pilot—explored three potential locations: Likpe, Amedzofe, and the Adaklu mountains.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Daniel Dzegede, Executive Director of the Volta Development Forum (VDF), who expressed strong support for the project. He was joined by Dr. Stanley Glatey, Vice President of the VDF Tourism Committee, both of whom pledged full collaboration with government agencies to ensure the project’s success.

Mr. Sampson highlighted the project’s potential to boost tourism in the region, noting that it would drive economic growth, foster cultural exchange, and support sustainable community development. “This initiative is set to unlock the Volta Region’s immense tourism potential and create economic ripple effects across local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and transport services,” he said.

Despite challenges such as limited road access to the proposed sites, stakeholders remain optimistic and committed to working together to address infrastructure needs.

Likpe has been identified as a leading contender for the maiden event, which could take place as early as December. Mr. Godfred Koffie, District Chief Executive for the Guan District Assembly, affirmed the Assembly’s dedication to raising awareness and facilitating tourism development in the area.

As preparations unfold, the Volta Region is poised to become a vibrant hub for adventure tourism, offering breathtaking scenery, adrenaline-pumping experiences, and a warm cultural welcome to visitors from near and far.
