Idris Elba engages with the management and staff of UniMAC’s Institute of Film and Television

Celebrated British actor and producer Idris Elba paid a courtesy visit to the University of Media, Arts, and Communication – Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT) on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

His visit was facilitated by the institute’s Public Relations Department, which focuses on building strategic collaborations to advance UniMAC-IFT’s mission.

The meeting, held on campus, brought together management and staff, led by Rector Professor Samuel Manasseh Yirenkyi. The atmosphere was filled with admiration, ambition, and anticipation of meaningful change.

Sharing his passion for nurturing young filmmakers, he spoke about his upcoming studio project. This initiative aims to provide world-class training opportunities for students worldwide. To him, UniMAC-IFT was not just an institution—it was a key partner in transforming Africa’s film industry into a global powerhouse.

In a moment of heartfelt generosity, Elba announced a $25,000 donation through his Elba Hope Foundation. This contribution will directly support UniMAC-IFT’s infrastructure development, easing some of the challenges outlined in the presentation.

Professor Yirenkyi, visibly moved, expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing that Elba’s support would significantly enhance the institute’s ability to train the next generation of filmmakers.
