The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Professor Kobby Mensah, has outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing Ghana’s tourism industry.

He revealed that his team has developed twelve tourism products and services to drive industry growth. Among these is the introduction of Night Tours, which he believes aligns with the NDC’s 24-hour Economy concept.
“I have been focused on developing tourism products and services while making financial projections for the next five years. So far, my team has created almost twelve products, including Accra by Night Tours, a Science Park Tour, and the Ghana Tourist Marketplace. These initiatives are designed to generate revenue that can be reinvested into the sector,” he stated.
He emphasized that Night Tours would allow Ghanaians to explore tourist attractions beyond regular working hours.
“I don’t see why we can’t have Night Tours. Accra is congested during the day, and I still don’t understand why people rush home after work at 4 or 5 PM. While we can’t force people to stay out longer, we can create well-planned programs that encourage them to do so,” he explained.
Additionally, GTDC plans to introduce a Tourist Incentive Voucher (TIV), which will reward high-performing employees with vouchers to visit tourist sites.
Beyond contributing to the 24-hour Economy, Professor Mensah noted that these initiatives also align with the broader vision of the Black Star Experience.
GTDC, one of 13 agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, was established in 1972 as a Private Limited Liability Company under the Companies Code 1963 (Act 176) to drive tourism development in Ghana.
