Ashanti Regional Minister establishes committee to support Kumawood’s growth

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has formed a committee to examine the challenges hindering the growth of the film industry in the region and develop solutions to address them.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Dr. Amoakohene announced, “Today, I officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector.”

The committee has been tasked with assessing the current state of the industry, identifying key challenges, and formulating policies to attract investment and promote sustainable growth. Their responsibilities also include developing strategies to enhance the visibility of Ghanaian films both locally and internationally, improving film production infrastructure and training opportunities, enriching film festivals and cultural showcases, and fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders to create more opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and creatives.

Dr. Amoakohene urged committee members to execute their mandate with dedication, commitment, and a spirit of unity to elevate Kumawood and the broader creative industry.

He emphasized that these efforts would contribute to building a globally competitive film industry that showcases the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana.
