Culture enthusiasts in the nation’s capital eagerly anticipate this year’s Akwaaba Festival, set to take place from March 6 to March 8 at the National Theatre.
Launched in 2022 by founder and director Joe Osae, the festival has grown into a renowned platform for celebrating Ghana’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

To enhance the atmosphere, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will host free live musical performances on March 6 and 7. The two-day musical showcase, coordinated by MUSIGA’s Greater Accra Secretary, Bright Appiah Quaye (Joe Wizzy), will feature performances from Bongofari, Friction of VIP, KayBlez of ‘Chochomucho’ fame, Abochi, Aklerh, King Soldier, Riq Garna, Edith Avor, Beatrice Quaye, Albee, Lady Pat, PJ, Nyornuzaze, Black Mezziah, Abooza, and the 2 Black 2 Strong Dancers.
“We look forward to a grand celebration of Ghanaian culture in its many forms,” said Joe Osae. “Our primary goal is to promote and share our vibrant heritage with all. Akwaaba Festival is a must-visit cultural experience for both locals and visitors.”
The festival will conclude on March 8 at 7:00 PM with Akwaaba Night at the National Theatre’s main auditorium. The grand finale will feature an electrifying performance by renowned musician Bessa Simons and his Bessa Band.
