GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto optimistic about boosting Ghana’s tourism industry

The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has expressed her commitment to enhancing Ghana’s tourism sector.

Speaking with Kwame Dadzie, Maame Efua stated that she is well-suited for the role and ready to contribute to the growth of the tourism industry.

When asked whether the performance of her predecessor, Akwasi Agyeman, puts pressure on her, she admitted that it does.

“It certainly does. But the truth is, before Akwasi Agyeman joined the GTA, he was relatively unknown. He was a low-key personality at Happy FM, affiliated with Global Media Alliance, and I knew him from our work together on Ghana at 50. He was quiet and unassuming until he stepped into the role. It also took him some time to settle in before making a significant impact,” she remarked.

However, Maame Efua expressed confidence in her ability to build upon Agyeman’s legacy, citing her background in marketing and experience in the tourism industry.

“I believe his expertise in marketing and events played a key role in his success. I pray that I can achieve the same and even more, as we share similar backgrounds,” she added.

Beyond her experience in journalism, events, marketing, and hospitality, Maame Efua highlighted her involvement in cruise tourism.

“My husband and I, along with a friend, Kwabena Essuman, co-founded a tour company called Royal Protocol Services. My husband, Eric Houadjeto, and I are proud that our company hosted Ghana’s first cruise ship in collaboration with Sun Seekers,” she revealed.

Maame Efua Houadjeto succeeds Akwasi Agyeman, whom she acknowledges for his support as she transitions into her new role as CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
