Yvonne Ossei receives the British Council’s ‘Study UK Alumni Award’ for Culture and Creativity

Ghanaian actress, writer, and producer Yvonne Ossei has been honored as the winner of the British Council’s ‘Study UK Alumni Award’ 2025 in the Culture and Creativity category.

Expressing her joy, Madam Ossei described the achievement as a privilege, representing Ghana and proudly bringing the award home on behalf of her alma mater, Queen Mary University of London.

She acknowledged the strong competition, highlighting the exceptional caliber of all finalists.

“I do not take this win for granted, as there was a group of very worthy candidates who made it to the finalist stage,” she stated.

The British Council’s ‘Study UK Alumni Award’ celebrates international leaders who have leveraged their UK education to make significant contributions to their communities, industries, and countries.

Madam Ossei extended her heartfelt gratitude to the British Council, Queen Mary University of London, and everyone who has supported her creative and social initiatives.

A pioneering figure in the film industry, Yvonne Ossei’s work has brought global awareness to critical issues such as female genital mutilation (FGM) in both the UK and Ghana.

She is a two-time recipient of the Ghana Prominent Awards, the first African woman to win the British Urban Film Festival Award, and now, the first individual from Queen Mary University of London to receive the British Council’s ‘Study UK Alumni Award’.
