Humanitarian Film Kadara Triumphs at the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards

The production team of the movie Kadara is celebrating their win for Best “Music Original Song” at the Ghana Movie Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday, January 18.

The team shared that Kadara was created with the goal of transforming attitudes and mindsets in communities in Northern Ghana, where the harmful practice of female genital mutilation is still prevalent.

For a film with a niche audience and minimal commercial focus to receive 11 nominations and ultimately secure an award was a significant achievement and a source of great motivation for the team.

Kofi Mulan, who accepted the award on behalf of the crew, expressed gratitude to the Ghana Movie Awards organizers. “We are thankful for this recognition. Kadara was not primarily intended for entertainment but for education, so it lacked strong commercial appeal. Yet, despite stiff competition from highly commercial films, we managed to win today. We thank God for this,” he said.

Kadara was filmed in Northern Ghana, with Anthony Woode and Habiba Sinare in lead roles. The project is part of Habiba Sinare’s ongoing humanitarian efforts. Known for her advocacy work, Sinare has also produced a short film on breast cancer, available for free on YouTube, among other impactful projects.
