The cause of his death has not been revealed. The family has announced that they will welcome friends and loved ones at the First Love Church, near Trinity Bible Seminary—the Vineyard of Engeddi, instead of his residence, on designated dates for condolences and tributes.
In an official statement, the family expressed profound sorrow over Steve Ababio’s passing.
“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing to glory of Mr. Steve Ababio on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Words cannot express how deeply we will miss him.
“The family of Steve Ababio will be receiving family, friends, and loved ones who wish to sit with them and express their condolences on his passing,” the statement read.
Before the family’s official announcement, tributes poured in from friends and colleagues in the photography world. A touching message read:
“Yesterday, I told Nana I must see you. Now I know why. You were on the way to the Father.
Thank you for over 50 years of an incredible ‘little brother/big brother’ role swap. From Kokomlemle, through university to adulthood, you were always there for me, no matter the time or circumstances.

Steve Ababio was a trailblazing travel and adventure photographer renowned for his ability to showcase the beauty of Africa through his compelling destination stories, uniquely narrated from an African perspective.
Born on May 17, 1968, Steve attended Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) in Accra before furthering his education at the College of Art at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). There, he refined his craft and developed the distinctive visual style that earned him global acclaim.
