Bee Arthur Unveils Vision for 2025: Advancing Ghana’s Creative Arts Sector through Policy, Education, and Infrastructure
Ghanaian fashion designer and artivist, Beatrice “Bee” Arthur, has presented a detailed roadmap for advancing Ghana’s creative arts sector in 2025. Her vision focuses on unlocking the economic and cultural potential of industries like film, fashion, literature, music, visual arts, and digital media, with an emphasis on government support and strategic investment.
Arthur highlighted the critical need for a comprehensive creative arts policy to guide industry growth. This policy should outline clear developmental pathways, empowering organizations such as the Creative Arts Council and the Ghana Culture Forum to coordinate efforts, advocate for professionals, and act as intermediaries between the government and key stakeholders. She also called for tax incentives, including holidays and reductions, to support startups and small businesses, fostering investment and driving innovation.
In terms of education, Bee Arthur stressed the importance of integrating arts education into the national curriculum from an early age, as well as enhancing institutions like the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), the Ghana Culture Forum, GAVA, and the Ghana Fashion Designers Association. To further develop talent, she advocated for scholarships and grants to help creatives refine their skills both locally and abroad.
On infrastructure, Arthur proposed the creation of creative hubs in major cities such as Tamale, Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi. These hubs would provide spaces for collaboration, mentorship, and networking. She also emphasized the need for performance venues and exhibition spaces like theatres and galleries, which could showcase local talent and host international festivals.
