The African Art Mart, in partnership with Beyond the Return, is hosting an art and photo exhibition in Accra to honor African legends and celebrate the continent’s rich heritage.
Titled “Beyond the Icons: A Celebration of African Legends,” the exhibition opened on Saturday, December 21, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and will run until Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
According to a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, this remarkable 10-day event highlights the lives, legacies, and contributions of some of Africa’s most influential figures, offering attendees a captivating visual exploration of the continent’s history and culture.
The exhibition features extraordinary artworks from renowned artists such as Sharon Dede Padiki, Philip Kumah, and Audrey Bruce. Their pieces honor iconic figures including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, Haile Selassie, Martin Luther King Jr., and Maya Angelou, among others.
In addition to the art displays, the event will include cultural performances and interactive sessions, allowing visitors to engage directly with the artists behind the masterpieces.
Mrs. Patricia Kodjo Kumah, CEO of African Art Mart, described the exhibition as more than just a celebration of individual achievements.
“This event is a tribute to the collective resilience, innovation, and global impact of African legends who have shaped history. It’s also a call to action for today’s generation to embrace their legacy and contribute to redefining Africa’s future,” she explained.
Open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the exhibition is expected to attract art enthusiasts, cultural historians, and the general public seeking to immerse themselves in Africa’s extraordinary narrative in an inspiring atmosphere.
The organizers expressed that the “Beyond the Icons” exhibition is not only a platform for celebration and reflection but also an opportunity for visitors to gain a deeper appreciation of Africa’s heritage and the remarkable individuals who have paved the way for future generations.
