The CEO of AnimaxFYB urges government support to enhance Ghana’s animation industry

Francis Y. Brown, CEO of AnimaxFYB Studios, a leading animation studio in Ghana, has urged the government to introduce policies and incentives to support the growth of the country’s emerging animation industry.

Speaking to Citi News during the 10th-anniversary celebration of AnimaxFYB Studios, Brown underscored key challenges facing the sector, such as the absence of co-production treaties and tax incentives, which are crucial for attracting investors.

“Being a budding industry, we face several challenges, including the lack of policies and co-production treaties. Ghana currently does not have such agreements with any country, and this also impacts the broader film industry,” he explained.

Brown also stressed the need for tax rebates to make animation and filmmaking more appealing to investors, similar to incentives provided to other industries.

“We need tax rebates to make animations and filmmaking attractive for investors, just as other industries enjoy similar benefits,” he noted.

Addressing the issue of a skilled workforce, Brown acknowledged existing gaps but expressed optimism about ongoing efforts to close them.

“Training skilled professionals remains a major need. However, at AnimaxFYB Studios, we are making strides by collaborating with international animation studios to bridge these gaps,” he said.

He further highlighted the studio’s commitment to nurturing young talent through its Koliko Training Facility, stating, “We have room for young talents and aim to train at least 500 professionals by 2025. The global animation revenue is growing rapidly, yet Africa is not part of that growth. We are determined to train world-class professionals to change that narrative.”

As part of its 10th-anniversary celebration, AnimaxFYB Studios has launched an exhibition to engage industry stakeholders, potential investors, and animation enthusiasts. The exhibition showcases their work and highlights the immense potential of Ghana’s animation industry
