Fans of celebrated singer and kologo player, Atongo Zimba, were delighted to see him take the stage at the recent Rhythms On Da Runway (Kente Edition) fashion extravaganza, held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
The excitement was not only for his captivating performances of hit songs like No Beer In Heaven and Sorimala but also for his stylish appearance in a custom-made shirt crafted from hand-painted Bambolse fabric, designed by Odefille Fashion.
The Bambolse tradition, originating from the Sirigu women of the Upper East Region, involves intricate wall decorations that have been passed down for generations. These designs convey various emotions and stories, serving as a cultural treasure.
Odefille Fashion has taken inspiration from this cherished tradition, transforming Bambolse art into beautifully designed fabrics. Atongo’s outfit was a standout at the event, and models confidently showcased Bambolse-inspired designs on the runway.
Odefille Fashion, committed to preserving cultural heritage, engages single mothers in Bolgatanga to hand-paint the Bambolse fabric, supporting the community as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“We must value our local fabrics instead of constantly pursuing foreign ones. Bonwire kente, Ewe kente, fugu, adinkra designs, and tie-and-dye are all ours. Let’s invest in them and keep the wealth within our system,” remarked Atongo, who proudly hails from the Upper East Region.
Expressing his pride in Odefille Fashion’s impact at Rhythms On Da Runway, Atongo shared his anticipation for Bambolse fabric to gain broader public appreciation.
