French Afro-pop singer Orti has credited Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale for igniting his passion for Ghanaian music.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Orti revealed that his journey began with Beyoncé’s global hit Already, featuring Shatta Wale. The track captivated him with Shatta’s unique energy and passion, sparking his curiosity about Ghanaian music.
His exploration deepened when he discovered Sarkodie’s Hallelujah, featuring Viviane Chidid, which solidified his admiration for the genre. “My love affair with Ghanaian music started with Beyoncé’s Already. Then I stumbled upon Sarkodie’s Hallelujah, and I was blown away by the incredible potential of Ghanaian music,” he shared.
Orti’s connection grew stronger after meeting celebrated media personality Bola Ray in Paris. This encounter led to his first trip to Ghana in 2021, where he collaborated with top artistes like Kwabena Kwabena, Becca, Sarkodie, and Gasmilla. He also developed a close bond with Kwabena Kwabena, whom he described as a brother, while fostering a deep appreciation for Highlife music and Ghana’s vibrant cultural heritage.
Reggae music, a long-time passion for Orti, further connected him to Ghana. He compared Ghana’s love for the genre to Jamaica’s, describing it as a shared cultural affinity. “Ghana reminds me of Jamaica because the love for reggae music is palpable. I’ve been into reggae since I was young, and it’s amazing to see how Ghana embraces it,” he remarked.
Orti has performed at major events like Paris in Accra and Accra in Paris, which promote cultural exchange between Ghana and France. His collaborations include projects with Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Fameye, and Becca. Some of his notable releases are Chocolat with Kwabena Kwabena, Twenty Twenty, Oga with Stonebwoy, and Inside Life with Sarkodie.
