The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping musicians with essential digital skills through its innovative digital training programme. This initiative focuses on enabling artists to effectively upload and promote their music across various online platforms, bridging the gap between traditional and modern music distribution.
So far, 32 musicians from diverse backgrounds have benefited from the programme, gaining valuable knowledge in content creation, online music distribution, and social media strategies.
The training sessions, which were held in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale, culminated with a final workshop in Tamale on May 30-31, 2024. Led by industry expert Kwabena Ofei-Kwadey Nkrumah, popularly known as Kobby Spikey, these workshops provided hands-on training tailored to the evolving demands of the digital music space.
MUSIGA General Secretary S.K. Agyemang described the initiative as transformative, stating, “This center is a game changer for the Union to support our members in navigating the digital terrain to enhance their careers.”
He emphasized the potential of digital tools to empower musicians to connect with global audiences and unlock significant revenue streams.
MUSIGA President Bessa Simons echoed these sentiments, noting, “The music business has fully transitioned to the digital age, and it is essential that our members are equipped to utilize these tools effectively to monetize their work and thrive.”
As part of this effort, MUSIGA has established a Technical Resource Centre to serve as a continuous learning and support hub. The center will provide tailored resources and guidance, reinforcing the Union’s commitment to fostering sustainable income streams and enhancing the professional growth of its members in the digital era.
