Goldstar Air is making significant strides to establish Ghana’s airports as the busiest aviation hubs in Africa, aiming to position Ghana as a premier 24-hour aviation hub. This ambitious goal leverages Ghana’s strategic location as a gateway to West Africa and a transit point for flights between the Americas, Europe, and Africa. The initiative is expected to deliver extensive economic, social, and infrastructural benefits, including enhanced accessibility for travelers with disabilities. Goldstar Air plans to introduce services and packages tailored to support disability tourism by improving infrastructure, such as wheelchair-accessible transport and accommodations.
The airline also seeks to promote Ghana’s unique geographic and cultural attractions, including the intersection of the Equator and Greenwich Meridian at Tema Country Golf Club, by making it a must-see destination. Following inspections and awaiting a safety certificate from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Goldstar Air is preparing for both scheduled and charter flights across Africa and beyond, creating substantial employment opportunities.
The airline’s 24-hour service, part of the company’s broader Afrik Allianz network initiative, will enhance Ghana’s global connectivity, making it an attractive hub for international business, cargo, and tourism. Goldstar Air plans to maximize the utility of Ghana’s regional airports, including Kumasi, Tamale, and Wa, to support activities from cargo services to training and Hajj pilgrimage flights. This expansion will contribute significantly to local economies, with Kumasi Prempeh 1 International Airport set to benefit through job creation and training for Asanteman residents.
Financially, Ghana’s airports currently face operational deficits, with expenditures surpassing revenues. In response, recommendations have been made to optimize airport usage, attract domestic airlines, and increase revenue through enhanced concessions. Goldstar Air’s development plans are expected to support this goal by attracting more traffic to these airports and advancing Ghana’s aviation sector.
Additionally, Goldstar Air’s collaboration with international entities, including Boeing and Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association, positions it as a key player in Ghana’s efforts to reduce reliance on aid, stabilize the local currency, and support the economy. With these developments, Goldstar Air is poised to transform Ghana into an African aviation powerhouse, addressing critical developmental needs and stimulating economic growth across multiple sectors.
