Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced that Ghana will launch its first local music streaming platform in November.
Speaking to stakeholders in the creative arts sector, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of a homegrown solution to ensure Ghanaian musicians receive better financial rewards for their work. He noted that platforms like Spotify are owned externally, leading to minimal payments for local artists.
“The goal is to create a local streaming platform that showcases all Ghanaian music,” he said, highlighting the collaboration between MUSIGA, the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), music producers, and the private sector to bring this platform to life.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the platform will help manage revenue, track royalties, and create more opportunities for content creators.
“I’m pleased to announce that the work is complete,” he said. “We’re set to launch the first local streaming platform for Ghanaian musicians and filmmakers next month.”
This new platform aims to provide a fairer revenue model for Ghanaian creatives, enabling them to track and collect royalties more effectively and fostering sustainable growth in the industry.
