Afrobeat singer Oxlade has revealed that, despite being a Nigerian artist, he receives more love and support from Ghana than from his home country. This sentiment is reflected in his decision to feature Ghanaian hip-hop legend Sarkodie on his debut album, Oxlade from Africa.
He described the collaboration as a testament to the warmth and appreciation he has experienced from Ghanaian fans. In an interview, Oxlade expressed his gratitude for the welcoming nature of the Ghanaian music scene, noting that it stands in stark contrast to the challenges he faces in Nigeria.
Oxlade also addressed his earlier social media comments regarding “OGs” boycotting and blackmailing him. He clarified that his frustrations stem from individuals trying to control his career path and “play god.” He explained that some conflicts arise from non-musical issues, such as being perceived as disrespectful or not greeting certain people adequately.
Opting not to name anyone or escalate the situation, he chose to focus on his music instead. “I hate the mindset of people trying to play god… when they think they can determine your trajectory. Sometimes, it’s just because they feel I see them outside and don’t greet them properly.”
