Kwan Pa’s film Sweet Palmwine will have its premiere on October 26

After experiencing the palmwine highlife fantasy for seven years, Ghanaian band Kwan Pa is making their film debut. The Accra Silverbird Cinemas will host the highlife band’s “Sweet Palmwine” movie premiere on October 26, 2024. The band’s leader, Asah Nkansah, said in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM that one of their ways of supporting the project and preserving palmwine highlife is through the movie project.

We chose the stories in the songs to create a movie, rather than creating separate music videos for each of the six tracks on our EP. In essence, we wanted to create something that would include palmwine music so that, even when the band isn’t physically present to perform, you can still enjoy palmwine music when you watch the film.

Asah went on to say that the film is modeled after the musical and dramatic 1970 film “I Told You So” directed by Egbert Adjesu. “This film is rated ‘Universal,’ meaning that people of all ages can watch it safely. It is a romantic comedy and a music drama,” the man stated.

The band claims that Wahala Entertainment was in responsible of the entire film’s production, which stars Willie Chambers, Fred Amugi, Aaron Adatsi, and Pascaline Edwards among other well-known Ghanaian actors. There will be two screenings at the Silverbird Cinemas locations in the Accra Mall and Westhills Mall. The first concert begins at 7 p.m., and the second show begins at 9 p.m. The cost of a ticket is one hundred cedis.

Music aficionados in Ghana and outside have grown to love Kwan Pa, a palmwine highlife band. Since its formation on July 31, 2017, the band has traveled around Ghana and other countries, performing at numerous social and national gatherings. The majority of their songs have a contemporary feel to them even though they use traditional instruments during their performances.

They present their own compositions in addition to contemporary music and songs from the indigenous highlife. In 2022, their six-track EP “Palmwine Music” was made available. Songs like “Mr. Traveller,” “Culinary Battle,” “Gyato,” “Ice Water,” “Aduane Nyinya,” and “Immediate Effect” are among them. Frederick Kwame Minamor, Bismark Kwabena Safo, Evans Ntieh, and Andrew Asah Nkansah (the leader) are its four members. Each of the four members does vocals in addition to playing an instrument.
