Guinness World Records has rejected a Ghanaian chef’s effort to set a new world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, according to her team.
In January, Failatu Abdul-Razak appeared to have broken the world record by cooking nonstop for over 227 hours.
On Sunday, Kafui Dey, the challenge coordinator for Ms Abdul-Razak, stated that her attempt to break the record “unfortunately fell short of meeting the stringent guidelines set forth by Guinness World Records”.
“A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.”
Ms Abdul-Razak’s attempt sparked considerable interest throughout Ghana.
Politicians, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, celebrities, and even the Ghanaian military rallied in favor of Ms Abdul-Razak throughout the cook-a-thon.
Despite her unsuccessful effort, the chef praised her followers, stating that their “support has been instrumental throughout this journey”.
