Ghana and St Kitts: A New Atlantic Bridge

Ghana and St Kitts and Nevis have signed a historic series of agreements to bring the two nations closer. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew arrived in Accra this week for a five-day official visit. His trip marks a turning point in Caribbean-African relations.

Visa-Free Travel for All

The most exciting news for travellers is the new visa waiver. Previously, only diplomats enjoyed this perk. Now, ordinary passport holders can travel freely between the two countries. President John Dramani Mahama hailed the move as “transformative.” It aims to spark a surge in tourism and business exchange.

Medical and Political Ties

Beyond travel, the leaders signed a major labour deal. St Kitts and Nevis will now recruit Ghanaian medical professionals to bolster its healthcare system. This partnership is part of the “Accra Reset Initiative.” Both nations also agreed to a new political consultation mechanism. This ensures they speak with a united voice on the global stage.

Honouring Heritage

Prime Minister Drew is the guest of honour for Ghana’s 69th Independence Day. His schedule includes emotional visits to the Cape Coast Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. These stops highlight the deep, shared history between the two regions. By breaking down visa and labour barriers, the two countries are finally turning old history into new opportunities.
