Ho: 2025 Asogli Yam Festival Showcases Culture, Celebration, and Adventure

The Volta Regional capital, Ho, is buzzing with excitement as the people of Asogli State, under the leadership of their Paramount Chief, Togbe Afede XIV, commence this year’s Te Za — the much-anticipated Yam Festival.

Renowned for its vibrant traditions and colourful activities, the festival has grown into a landmark cultural event, attracting attendees from across Ghana and beyond. Thousands participated in last year’s Yam Hailing Ceremony, and expectations are even higher this year.

Festivalgoers can look forward to a rich lineup of events, including scenic mountain hikes at Galenkui and Adaklu, health walks, and complimentary medical screenings.

Music and dance will take centre stage with choral nights, energetic youth jams, and the iconic borborbor concert. A special cultural highlight will be the historic trip to Notse in Togo, the ancestral home of the Ewe people, symbolizing a deep connection to their roots.

The celebration goes beyond entertainment, addressing important societal issues. There will be a dedicated Women’s Day celebration, an anti-corruption dialogue, and the Asogli Marathon for fitness and sports enthusiasts.

Togbe Afede XIV will also host Ewe chiefs from Ghana, Togo, and Benin in a significant gathering aimed at strengthening regional unity. Throughout the festival, he will receive goodwill messages and support from public and private institutions.

A key moment of the celebration is the Teyuyru — the ceremonial hailing of the new yam harvest. This thanksgiving ritual draws massive crowds, honours farmers with awards, and concludes with a grand dinner and dance in their honour.

The festival will wrap up with interfaith prayers, featuring both Muslim and Christian services, promoting peace and togetherness.

Officially launched on July 14, the festival included a Youth Empowerment and Business Pitch event, where young innovators presented their ideas and received funding support. On July 19, Togbe Afede awarded a cash prize to the overall winner of the 2025 Asogli State Youth Empowerment initiative.

Held under the theme “Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation”, this year’s celebration is not only about festivity — it is a time for reconciliation, renewal, and fostering unity within the community.
